The Al-Zahra (S) Educational, Treatment, and Research Center is one of the referral facilities for women and midwifery, as well as a provider of preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for women and infants in the northwest part of the country. Operating under a board of trustees, it provides specialized services in a number of fields, including neurology, endocrinology, general surgery, neonatology, hematology, urogynecology, infertility, breast surgery, women's oncology, and neurology.
Originally established as a 3,799.1-square-meter facility with 8,518.6 square meters of built-up space, the center opened in 1972 with 127 active beds and 6 operating rooms devoted to obstetrics and gynecology. The center's original 8,000 square meter facility and its new, six-story, 5,400 square meter building, which was finished in December 2005, were made possible by a donation from the Nobar Foundation and Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. With 224 active beds and 8 operating rooms, the center is currently operational.
Notably, Mr. Karim Mardani Azar held the groundbreaking ceremony for the third structure, also known as the screening building, in 2007 with the support of the Nobar Charity Foundation. The project was started by renowned philanthropist Mr. Karim Mardani Azar and finished with the help of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and another benefactor, Mr. Yaqoub Sadegh Nobari. This facility, which is 10,000 square meters in size and was built for screening, was opened in 2014 with the assistance of God.
This complex houses outpatient clinics, blood collection units, preclinical reporting units, reception and discharge units, and imaging departments (ultrasound, mammography, radiology, CT scan, and MRI). In addition, it has a delivery ward, a neonatal intensive care unit, maternal wards, high-risk pregnancy units, women's oncology and chemotherapy, a nutrition unit, laboratory areas, two surgical rooms, an HDU section, and a central staff cafeteria.
